Editorial Summary
The American University of Nigeria (AUN) is a private university in Yola, Adamawa State, founded in 2004 by former Nigerian Vice-President Atiku Abubakar. Established around an American-style liberal-arts education model, the university was conceived as an institution that would combine higher education with entrepreneurship, leadership and development-oriented learning. Its creation also represented an attempt to establish an internationally oriented university in northeastern Nigeria, with an academic model designed to prepare students for participation in Nigeria, Africa and the wider global economy.
AUN has developed into a multidisciplinary institution offering undergraduate and graduate education while maintaining its distinctive development-oriented identity.
