Editorial Summary

Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) is a public university owned by the Ogun State Government and headquartered in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State. Established in 1982 as Ogun State University, the institution was created to expand access to university education and provide the state with an academic institution capable of supporting professional education, research and regional development. It was renamed Olabisi Onabanjo University in 2001 in honour of Chief Olabisi Onabanjo, the first civilian governor of Ogun State.
The university has developed from its original academic structure into a comprehensive institution with programmes spanning medicine and health sciences, engineering, agriculture, sciences, law, education, social sciences, management, arts and other professional disciplines. Its multi-campus structure includes the main campus at Ago-Iwoye and specialist campuses and facilities serving medicine, engineering and other academic functions.
OOU's academic role extends beyond undergraduate teaching through postgraduate education, research and professional training. The university has continued expanding its academic programmes and research capacity while strengthening collaborations with government, industry and other institutions. Its College of Medicine and teaching-hospital relationship also give the institution an important role in medical education and healthcare training within Ogun State and the wider Southwest region.
