Editorial Summary

Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) was established in August 2020 as a public university with a specialised mandate in technical and vocational education and training (TVET), entrepreneurship, and the preparation of teachers for skills-based education. Its origins lie in the College of Technology Education in Kumasi and the College of Agriculture Education in Mampong, which previously operated as colleges of the University of Education, Winneba.
The institution occupies a distinctive position in Ghana’s tertiary education system by connecting teacher preparation with practical and occupational skills development. Its statutory mandate includes training teachers for technical and vocational institutions, strengthening entrepreneurship education, undertaking research in TVET and related disciplines, and building links with industry and communities. These priorities connect academic training with workforce development, job creation and economic participation.
With campuses in Tanoso, Kumasi, and Mampong, the university brings together technical education and agricultural education within a shared institutional framework. Its programmes and research address the preparation of skilled educators, the development of practical curricula, and the application of knowledge to vocational and entrepreneurial challenges. In December 2025, the institution’s name changed to University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development, Kumasi (USTED). The former name remains important for historical records and searches referring to the university before that change.
