Newmont Ghana Gold Limited

Entrepreneur, Mining Investor, Financier

Colonel William Boyce Thompson was an American entrepreneur, mining investor and financier who founded the Newmont Company in 1916 as a holding company for his private investments in oil and gas, mining and minerals. He named the company Newmont, combining his financial interests in New York with his connection to Montana. The company was reincorporated as Newmont Corporation in 1921 and subsequently developed into a major international natural-resources company. Newmont later expanded into Ghana, where its mining operations include the Ahafo South and Ahafo North mines. Thompson's establishment of Newmont created the corporate foundation from which the modern global mining company developed.
