The Lagos State Government was the establishing authority behind Eko Holiday Inn, the hotel that opened in Lagos in 1977 and later became Eko Hotels & Suites. The project formed part of the state's development of Lagos as a major commercial, hospitality and tourism destination. The hotel was established during the administration of Military Governor Mobolaji Johnson and was designed by architect Oluwole Olumuyiwa. Following its establishment and subsequent management under international hospitality interests, the property underwent changes in ownership and management before becoming associated with the Chagoury Group. Today, Eko Hotels & Suites remains one of Lagos's major hospitality landmarks.
