Co-Founder & President, NewGlobe

Anthropologist, Education Entrepreneur, Researcher

Shannon May is an American anthropologist, researcher and education entrepreneur who co-founded NewGlobe with Jay Kimmelman and Phil Frei. Her doctoral research in anthropology examined economic development and rural communities in China, where she also experienced firsthand the challenges facing a remote school while conducting field research. That experience became an important part of the thinking that led May and her co-founders to develop a scalable approach to education delivery.
May has remained involved in NewGlobe's education methodology, research and public policy work. In her role as President and Co-Founder, she has represented the organization in international education discussions, including work on foundational learning, government-led education transformation and the use of technology and data to improve public education systems.
