Editorial Summary

Academic City University is a private Ghanaian university established to develop future-ready graduates through applied learning, entrepreneurship, interdisciplinary education and innovation. Incorporated in Accra in 2008, it admitted its first undergraduate students in 2009, initially offering programmes in information technology and banking and finance through an affiliation with Sikkim Manipal University. A strategic shift towards science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics education led to the development of its Haatso campus, which opened in 2018 with expanded engineering facilities.
The university received its Presidential Charter in 2024, giving it independent degree-awarding authority. Its academic approach is organised around experiential, contextual, unified and extensional learning, with an emphasis on practical projects, industry-standard equipment, internships, entrepreneurship and applying technical knowledge to problems affecting Ghana and the wider African continent.
Its programme portfolio includes engineering disciplines, computer science, artificial intelligence, data science, cybersecurity, business and entrepreneurship. In 2026, the university introduced undergraduate programmes in electric vehicle engineering, nuclear engineering and unmanned aerial systems engineering, extending its focus into emerging technology fields. The institution also supports collaborative research and innovation through initiatives such as the Ghana BioInnovation Center.
