ALX
Editorial Summary
ALX is an African education and career-development organization founded from an African Leadership University experiment that developed into a scalable learning model for technology talent and entrepreneurs. Its early programme began in Kenya in 2017–2018 as a response to the gap between university qualifications and employment opportunities, with a practical approach focused on skills, leadership and employability. The model expanded rapidly during the COVID-19 period, including the acquisition of Holberton in 2021–2022 to strengthen its technical curriculum. ALX subsequently became independent as a nonprofit organization in 2023–2024.
ALX has since developed into a pan-African learning and career ecosystem covering technology, AI and data, creative disciplines, entrepreneurship and other career pathways. Its programmes combine structured learning with mentorship, community infrastructure and connections to employment and entrepreneurship opportunities. The organization currently operates across multiple African markets, with country-level teams in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, Ethiopia, Egypt and Morocco/Tunisia.
