Bells University of Technology (BellsTech)
Editorial Summary
Bells University of Technology (BellsTech) is a private university in Ota, Ogun State, established by the Bells Educational Foundation as Nigeria's first private university of technology. The institution received its operational licence from the Federal Government on 9 June 2005 and commenced operations on 1 July 2005. Its creation followed the Bells Educational Foundation's objective of extending its educational work into university education while establishing an institution specifically oriented toward science, technology, information and communication technology and practical technological development.
The university was conceived around an applied and technology-driven model rather than a conventional liberal-arts university. Its founding vision emphasized transferable and sustainable technologies, ICT-driven education, science and engineering, and the connection between university training and industry. Over time, BellsTech has expanded its academic portfolio across engineering, environmental sciences, natural and applied sciences, information technology, management, food sciences and related disciplines, while developing postgraduate education and research capacity.
