Catholic University of Ghana
Editorial Summary
The Catholic University of Ghana is a private Catholic higher education institution established through the initiative of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference to combine academic learning with ethical development, professional competence and service to society. Its academic operations began in March 2003, initially offering programmes in computer science, economics and business administration, and religious studies. The institution subsequently expanded into education, health and allied sciences, and other academic areas.
Based at Fiapre near Sunyani, the university developed from an affiliated university college into an autonomous degree-awarding institution after receiving its Presidential Charter on 30 August 2022. Its academic identity centres on the relationship between scientific and professional knowledge, moral responsibility and holistic personal development. Its programme mix connects business and economics, information and communication technology, religious studies, education, and health-related disciplines. Under Vice-Chancellor Professor Matthew Glover Addo, appointed in September 2025, the university has identified infrastructure modernisation, improvements to teaching and learning technology, and stronger institutional recognition as priorities for its development.
