Editorial Summary

Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki (EBSU) is a public university owned by the Ebonyi State Government and the principal state-owned university in Ebonyi State. Its institutional history is rooted in the Abakaliki campus of the former Anambra State University of Science and Technology, which was established in 1980 and later became part of Enugu State University of Science and Technology following the creation of Enugu State in 1991. When Ebonyi State was created in 1996, the Abakaliki campus became Ebonyi State University College before being transformed into a full-fledged autonomous university.
The legal foundation for the autonomous university was established through Ebonyi State University Law No. 7 of 1999, which received executive assent in January 2000. Professor Fidelis Ogah became its first Vice-Chancellor. The university subsequently expanded its academic structure through the establishment of faculties and programmes in areas including Arts, Education, Management and Social Sciences, Law, Health Sciences and Technology, alongside its established agricultural and natural-science foundations.
