Editorial Summary

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) is a federal university in Akure, Ondo State, established in 1981 as part of the Federal Government's programme to create specialised universities focused on technological education and the development of scientific and technical manpower for Nigeria. It was one of seven federal universities of technology established during the early 1980s and commenced operations with three foundation schools: Agriculture and Agricultural Technology, Earth and Mineral Sciences, and Pure and Applied Sciences. The institution began from a modest rented facility in Akure before expanding into a purpose-built university with a broader technological and scientific mandate.
FUTA's institutional identity is rooted in the connection between higher education, scientific research and technological development. Unlike a conventional university whose academic structure traditionally spans the full range of humanities and professional disciplines, FUTA was established specifically to strengthen Nigeria's technological capacity through education, research and the application of science.
