Editorial Summary

The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA) is a federal university of technology in Minna, Niger State, established on February 1, 1983 as part of Nigeria's national effort to build indigenous capacity in science, engineering and technology. The institution was created with a specialised mandate rather than the broader disciplinary structure traditionally associated with conventional universities: to produce the scientific and technological expertise required to support Nigeria's industrial, economic and developmental needs. Its founding mandate remains central to the university's identity, with its stated mission focused on developing a skilled and innovative workforce capable of converting Nigeria's natural resources into goods and services through technology, entrepreneurship and information and communication technology.
FUTMINNA's institutional development has been closely tied to the expansion of technological education in Nigeria. It initially operated from the facilities of the former Government Teachers' College at Bosso, which became its Bosso Campus, before the Federal Government acquired approximately 10,650 hectares at Gidan-Kwano for its permanent campus. Development of the main campus began in 1992, with facilities constructed for agriculture, environmental technology, engineering and engineering technology, student accommodation, computing, research and administration. This transition enabled the university to expand from its early foundation into a substantially larger technology-focused institution.
