Editorial Summary

Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) is a federal university headquartered in Awka, Anambra State, established by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 1991 from the former Anambra State University of Technology. Named after Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, one of the central figures in Nigeria's independence and early post-independence political history, the university carries an institutional identity closely associated with the country's wider development of indigenous higher education. It commenced its federal university operations in the 1991/1992 academic period and has since evolved from its original academic base into a comprehensive multidisciplinary university.
The university's expansion has been significant in both academic scope and institutional infrastructure. Its programmes now extend across medicine and health sciences, pharmacy, engineering, law, agriculture, natural and applied sciences, environmental sciences, management, social sciences, education and the humanities. The development of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital has also strengthened the institution's role in medical education, clinical training and health-related research, while its postgraduate system supports advanced academic and professional training.
UNIZIK has grown into a major higher-education institution serving a large student population across undergraduate, postgraduate and professional programmes. Its institutional footprint includes 19 faculties alongside the university's teaching hospital and specialist academic and research centres. The breadth of its academic structure gives the university relevance across several areas of Nigeria's professional and human-capital development, particularly medicine, engineering, law, pharmacy, science, business and the social sciences.
