Editorial Summary

The University of Calabar is a federal university in Calabar, Cross River State, whose institutional history began with the establishment of the Calabar campus of the University of Nigeria during the 1973/74 academic session. In April 1975, the Federal Military Government announced that the campus would become a full-fledged university, making UNICAL one of the seven universities established during the major expansion of Nigeria's federal university system in the mid-1970s. The university commenced its own academic journey in October 1976 with three initial faculties.
UNICAL has since developed from that original three-faculty structure into a comprehensive multidisciplinary university with more than 15 faculties and academic programmes covering fields including agriculture, allied medical sciences, arts, administration and management sciences, biological and physical sciences, education, engineering, environmental sciences, law, medicine, pharmacy and social sciences.
