Valley View University
Editorial Summary
Valley View University is a private Christian university in Ghana established in 1979 by the West African Union Mission of Seventh-day Adventists. Its development from a small ministerial training institution into a multidisciplinary university reflects the expansion of Adventist higher education in West Africa. The institution began at Bekwai in the Ashanti Region, relocated to the Accra area in 1983, and moved to its present main campus at Oyibi in 1989, when it adopted the name Valley View College. In 1997, it became the first private tertiary institution in Ghana to receive accreditation to award its own degrees. A Presidential Charter granted in 2006 made it Ghana's first chartered private university.
The university's educational philosophy integrates academic development with physical wellbeing, social responsibility, spiritual formation, and service. Its academic offerings span business, theology and religious studies, education, public health, nursing, computing, social sciences, and other professional disciplines. It serves undergraduate and postgraduate students and maintains additional campuses in Kumasi and Techiman, extending its educational reach beyond its main campus in the Greater Accra Region.
Valley View University's institutional development has included postgraduate education, research, academic quality assurance, international collaboration, and community engagement. Its research activity includes public health, health and environmental sciences, education, and related interdisciplinary fields.
