Editorial Summary
Bayero University, Kano is a Nigerian federal university whose institutional roots trace to Ahmadu Bello College, established in Kano in 1960 as part of the School for Arabic Studies. Following the establishment of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1962, the college was renamed Abdullahi Bayero College and subsequently became affiliated with ABU. In 1975, it was elevated to university-college status with its own Governing Council, and it became a full-fledged university in 1977 under the Federal Government's nationwide expansion of university education.
The institution developed from its early concentration on arts, Islamic studies and preparatory education into a comprehensive university serving northern Nigeria and the wider country.
