Professor Fred McBagonluri is an engineer, inventor and higher education leader whose career spans corporate research and development, medical technology innovation, engineering education and institutional leadership. Before joining Academic City, he was the founding Dean of Engineering and an Associate Professor at Ashesi University, where he contributed to the development of engineering education and the institution’s applied, interdisciplinary approach to learning. His corporate career includes senior innovation and engineering roles at Siemens Healthcare, Becton, Dickinson and Company, and Joerns Healthcare. His work contributed to the development of new markets valued at more than US$250 million, according to Academic City’s published conference biography. He holds more than 40 US patents and patent applications, including more than 20 issued patents. Among his reported achievements was leading a Siemens Healthcare team that developed a direct-to-consumer medical product using digital manufacturing protocols. McBagonluri also served as the inaugural Executive Director of the Ghana Climate Innovation Center, contributing to the development of Ghana’s climate-innovation ecosystem and to science, technology and innovation policy.
