Covenant University
Editorial Summary
Covenant University is a private Christian university in Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria, established in 2002 under the World Mission Agency, with David Oyedepo serving as its visioner and founding figure. The institution grew from the initiative to establish a private university that would combine higher education with leadership development and a distinct Christian mission ethos. The Federal Government granted the university its operating licence in February 2002, and Covenant admitted its first students later that year.
Over more than two decades, Covenant University has developed into a multidisciplinary private university with colleges covering business and social sciences, leadership and development studies, engineering, and science and technology. Its institutional development has also included research centres, postgraduate education and expanding academic programmes, giving it a significant place in Nigeria's private higher-education sector.
